Ghana coach, Ratomir Dujkovic, says the continent will witness the best from the Black Stars at CAN 2006 in Egypt despite the tough group they will face in the opening round.
The Black Stars were grouped alongside two-time African champions and traditional rivals Nigeria, 2002 world cup quarter finalists Senegal and Zimbabwe in group B of next year’s Cup of Nations.
The group has been dubbed the group of death by experts but in his first reaction to the CAN 2006 draw that was conducted in Cairo last week, Dujkovic said he is confident Ghana can do well in Egypt.
“Our group is a very tough, the strongest in the competition,” Dujkovic told Accra based radio station Joy FM.
“We have to take it very seriously. I believe Ghana can beat any team in at this moment. The group of players are confident and they are not afraid of anybody. I am expecting the best of the Black Stars in this African Cup of Nations” Dujkovic added.
Ghana will begin their campaign in Egypt with the opening game of the group against Nigeria on January 23rd 2006. The Super Eagles will be eager to do well after the failure to qualify for the Cup of Nations.
The Stars next game will be against Senegal four days later on January 27 with the final group game coming against Zimbabwe on 31st January.
Buoyed by the historic world cup qualification, the Black Stars will be seeking a historic fifth Nations Cup that will surpass the four won by Egypt and Cameroon.
