Ghana is one of the three biggest movers for this month’s edition of the FIFA world ranking moving eleven places up the log. Ghana, one of the participating countries for next years world cup soared have moved to the fifty-first position from the sixty-second spot it occupied last month on the ranking table.
According to FIFA, Ghana, alongside two other African World Cup contenders Togo and Tunisia, are the most successful teams this year, each of whom are potential winners of the Best Mover of the Year title.
Ghana’s improvement can be traced to her good showing during the just ended World Cup qualifiers where the Black Stars booked a ticket for next year’s soccer event.
A four-nil win by the Black Stars over Cape Verde in their last world cup game enhanced their point build up greatly.
No African country could manage a place in the top twenty but all five African world cup contenders made it into the top sixty.
On the continental front, the four-time African champions are placed tenth thus improving by just a place up.
Cameroon are still overlords of Africa followed by Nigeria, though both missed out of qualifying for the world cup.
On the world stage, world champions Brazil lead the log with Netherlands and Czech Republic following in that order.
The ranking represents the strength of 205 countries affiliated to FIFA and includes the national A-teams of all FIFA member associations who play international matches.
Not included in the calculation are matches played by junior teams or other representative national sides (such as the women's national team).
