FIFA referee William Agbovi, the man at the center of the refereeing row during the Kotoko-Hearts league match at the Ohene Djan stadium has been defending his decisions during last Sunday’s game.
Referee Agbovi has taken a lot of flak from Kotoko before and after the Sunday’s game.
The porcupine warriors have accused referee Agbovi of displaying open bias towards Hearts.
“It is unfortunate that Kotoko have to say I’m a Hearts fan.” Agbovi said.
Speaking to Joy Sports from his Suhum-base, Agbovi denied any affiliation with the phobians and traced the genesis of his problems with Kotoko.
“It happened in the 2003 season when Charles Taylor joined Kotoko and in a league match against Hearts he was advancing into the Hearts goal area but he was displaced off the ball and he fell.
“They were expecting me to award a penalty but I was in a good position, it wasn’t any foul. Since that game, it’s always Agbovi in the news anytime I am to handle a game involving Kotoko.” he told Joy Sports.
“I have officiated eight Hearts matches including last Sunday’s game. They have won two, drawn five and lost one, so I was expecting Hearts to rather complain and not Kotoko.”
