Coach David Duncan says he holds up his head high after leading the Black Starlets to a string of three successive draws, which failed to qualify them from the group stage at the FIFA world under 17 championship.
But many disagree with the outspoken coaches views claiming the team could have done better.
One of such people is Ben Koufie, a former coach and chairman of the Ghana Football Association.
Ben Koufie who was in Peru as a technical officer from the sports ministry says, Ghana’s chances were in danger after her second drawn game against Costa Rica at the FIFA world under-17 championship.
In an interview with Joy Sports from his base in Peru, the former GFA chairman dismissed reports of interference as claimed by David Duncan.
“I made appraisals. I told them my mind about how certain things should go and praised them where it was due. I related to them nicely. I don’t know where that interference came from.” Ben Koufie said.
“There was no overlapping responsibilities at all. I made sure I didn’t interfere with their work in the real sense.
According to Ben Koufie, though he wasn’t really happy with the team’s inability to make to the next round of the competition, he believes the squad should be kept for suture assignments.
“I am not satisfied in the sense that we could have done better. What I’m happy about is that atleast we were not disgraced and that Ghana proved that it was a football playing country.”
“Maybe as a coach, he (Duncan) is satisfied with the boys.
“But as it’s said in coaching, a coach is not responsible for the results of the match. A coach is responsible for the performance of his team but a coach is judged by the results of the match.” the former FA boss told Joy Sports.
