Former national under-20 coach, Emmanuel Kwasi Afranie says the lack of a comprehensive buildup to the world under 17 cup in Peru contributed to Ghana’s shock first round elimination.
The Black Starlets of Ghana failed to progress beyond the group stage of the championships.
While some have sought to blame the team’s exit on the failure to prepare in England and the US due to botched travel arrangements, the current Kotoko boss disagrees.
Speaking on the Joy SportsLink discussion show last Saturday, Coach Afranie said despite their inability to go to Europe and the U.S, the team could have prepared adequately internally before the tournament.
“It is not about the aborted trips to the U.K or U.S, the team should have made use of the local clubs by engaging them in trials.”
“You go there (U.K and U.S) to continue with your preparation but not for anyone to teach you.
“There are good facilities there and it helps in capacity building and concentration. It is good lesson and we have to learn from this.” Coach Afranie told Joy Sports.
