Heptathlete Margaret Simpson is unlikely to compete at the third World Athletics Championship which commences in Monaco Friday.
Simpson, ranked third in the women’s heptathlon event, plans to rest her muscles for a while before plunging into preparations for next year’s Commonwealth Games.
The athlete, who won Ghana’s first world medal in Helsinki last month, is one of three Ghanaian athletes who qualify to compete at the Monaco championships.
Long jumper Ignatius Gaisah and sprinter Aziz Zakari complete the field.
Gaisah, ranked second best will attempt to unseat American Dwight Phillips from the top of the rankings while Zakari seeks to improve his flagging international records.
The top seven athletes and best eleven in all distance races in each event get the opportunity to compete at this edition of the world championships.
