Kumasi Asante Kotoko Board chairman P.V Obeng says it is time that all involved in the club to brace up for the challenges ahead as they mark their seventieth anniversary.
He told Joy Sports that the club regards the anniversary as the opportune time for reflection and planning towards the future.
“If Kotoko had been a human being, we would have been open to what the good books says – if you behave well and serve your Lord well, He will bless you with seventy years. He has blessed us with that and we need to look on now.” P.V. Obeng told Joy Sports.
Asante Kotoko, one of Ghana’s illustrious clubs, marked seventy years of existence yesterday.
But surprisely club officials marked the day’s events on the quiet.
Kumasi Asante Kotoko was founded in 1935 by a local schoolteacher called Kwame Frimpong.
“It’s time to see what is challenging before us.
“Though we reminisce the good times we would have to do some somber reflections.” He added.
The last time Asante Kotoko celebrated such a special occasion with enough the expected pomp and pageantry was five years ago under the Herbert Mensah administration when the club hit 65.
But for a historical piece in the club’s official mouthpiece, the Kotoko Express, on the club’s development and achievements over the years, there’s been little or no talk about the birthday.
