The New Year is expected to bring good tiding as the thrills that the Onetouch Premier League has produced continue in midweek with the first games of the New Year.

No love is lost though but the competition for honours and continental places means clubs would approach the match-day-8 fixtures with all seriousness.

The top two sides would be aiming to avoid dropping points while clubs caught in the bottom ranks attempt to lift themselves from the relegation net for now.

Leaders, Asante Kotoko would be aiming to hold onto their position at the top but are faced with the first local derby game of the year, though it would be played away from Kumasi.

The Porcupine Warriors would play away to city rivals, King Faisal, who did escape from Kaladan the last time with draw at the Coronation Park.

Hearts of Lions, still keeping the heat on the leaders, are away to Tema Youth at the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape Coast. Lions are two points adrift the leaders and would be hoping to pick up a win to maintain their chase.

The Len Clay Stadium would welcome home team, AshantiGold to the grounds after completing a three-game home ban. The Miners would be up against Wa All Stars.

Liberty Professionals stay at home to play Real Tamale United at the Carl Reindorf Park in Dansoman while Zaytuna United travel away to Sekondi to play Hasaacas, who are second from bottom at the Gyandu Park.

Sampson Lamptey begins his tenure as a stop-gap coach for Accra Hearts of Oak with an away fixture at the Swedru Park where the Phobians play Gamba All Blacks. This would be the club’s first game since Monday's dismissal of coach Abdul Karim Zito.

Kessben FC returns to the Anane Boateng Stadium where they would try to get back on the winning road with a home game against Berekum Arsenals.

And the New Year might bring about a revival for Accra Great Olympics, whose poor performances have seen them prop the league since it started this season. The Wonder Boys would be up against Real Sportive at the El-Wak Stadium.
