Berekum Chelsea failed to replicate their week one form after Liberty Professionals held them to a goalless game at the golden city park, Berekum in the Bono Region.

A penalty awarded them in the 73rd minute and taken by Kofi Owusu, was well saved by Man of the Match, Shaibu Ganiwu in post for the visitors.

The blues, who beat Hearts of Oak in the opening round of matches by a goal to nil, appeared under pressure to impress their hungry home fans.

The home side started the game on an electrifying note with the intention of an early goal. But the Liberty backline was as solid as they could be. It was in the 14th minute when Chelsea found the back of the net but attacker, Kofi Owusu was adjudged to have impeded the goalkeeper before heading the ball into the net.

Thereafter, it was a fairly balanced game with both goalkeepers, Danlad Ibrahim and Shaibu Ganiwu of Chelsea and Liberty respectively, making some crucial saves to keep the game barren after half an hour.

The first half ended with referee Desmond Abbey flashing a yellow card each to Ushau Abu of Chelsea in the 26min, Samuel Amofa and Satar Ahmed of Liberty prof in the 31st and 45th minutes respectively.

The second department of the game started with a lot of profligacy in front of goal. Chief among them was Kofi Owusu who capped what should be below his standards with a penalty, saved by the Liberty shot-stopper. That mainly ensured the game will end with both sides sharing the spoils.

Joseph Asare Bediako, assistant coach for Chelsea blamed the outcome on the difficulty in their new formation.

"The 4-2-3-1 system is a very difficult system for Ghanaians especially. It requires strength and speed. We will work on our stamina and when we master it, we will pull a lot of surprises", he said.

But his opponent, Coach David Ocloo said, his charges played to his strategy after he monitored their game against Hearts of Oak.

"Our plan worked to perfection, because we decided to do the medium pressing then we hit them on the counter. The boys did well today", he said

Chelsea is hopeful of pulling another away surprise when they visit Asante Kotoko next week at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium while Liberty is confident of picking their first win at home against Medeama.
