Dansoman based Liberty Professionals on Monday, drew 1-1 against Bechem United at the Ibrahim Sly Tetteh Park.

The game that was initially scheduled for Sunday was held over for Monday because the tests results of Bechem United we’re not ready, a situation that delayed their trip to Accra to honour the Match on Sunday.

Liberty Coach David Ocloo named a line up made up of players who starred in the 2019/20 season.

The Scientific soccer lads lost their priceless asset Mubarak Alhassan to Spanish La-liga side Granada in the summer window creating a void in the midfield area.

Alhassan scored 6 goals and made 5 assists for Liberty Professionals before his departure. Coach Ocloo, named goalkeeper Kofi Baah in post to fill the gap created by Fatao Alhassani who has left for Simba FC in Tanzania.

He paraded the likes of Godfred Atuahene, George Amoako, Abraham Wayo and new recruit Ben Nash Quansah who joined on a free transfer after ending his contract with Dreams FC.

For Bechem United, playing on Monday was a fine opportunity to open their campaign with a good result having struggled to match Liberty at the dreaded Sly Tetteh park in Dansoman.

They had Emmanuel Boakye, Emmanuel Asante, Stephen Owusu and Charles Mensah in the starting line-up.

Bechem United kept their discipline and maintained a well defensive shield on a rainy Monday afternoon. But their resilience was broken by a George Ansong goal in the 20th minute mark. He latched onto a neatly delivered cross into the box to fire home the opener. Both teams began to sit back and play a cautious game but Liberty on a few occasions committed men forward in search of a second goal.

The home side lost steel in the second half and conceded 10 minutes after break through Stephen Owusu. Owusu scored from the spot following a foul on Emmanuel Asante to bring the game level on the 55th minute.

Bechem United then retarded into their shells to make things difficult for the host. The soggy pitch in Dansoman made ball control difficult for both sides as they fluffed the few opportunities that came their way to settle for a draw.

Liberty Professionals travel to Elmina to face Sharks in their matchday two fixture whilst Bechem United host WAFA at the Nana Gyabeour Park.

Liberty Professionals captain George William Ansong was named Man of the Match.
