Late Kotoko winner hurts Lions

Heartache for Hearts of a Lions as a last gasp winner on the stroke of full time ensured that Asante Kotoko claimed all three points in their match-day-18 outstanding league match on Wednesday.

Asante Kotoko rallied from a goal down to beat Heart of Lions 2-1 in the evening kick off match at the Ohene Djan Stadium and thus open a six-point lead at the top of the standings and with a game to spare.

Lions who finished the game with ten men, deservedly jumped into the lead after dominating possession with a 14th minute opener coming from Emmanuel Banahene.

The home team bossed the game after securing the opener but struggled break through the defence of Kotoko to double their lead.

They however maintained their slim lead to end the half 1-0 up.

Back from recess, Asante Kotoko showed much urgency and three minutes into the half, the Porcupine Warriors drew level.

The premiership’s leading scorer, Eric Bekoe poked in the equalizer for Kotoko, which was 12th goal of the season.

Relieved at drawing level, Kotoko tried to find openings as Lions appeared to have slowed down the tempo of their game.

With two minutes to end the game, Heart of Lions were reduced to ten men as Joseph Jackson was shown the red card.

And as both sides appeared to settling for a drawn game, Kotoko substitute, Stephen Oduro changed the scorecards as he scored the match winner on the stroke of full time.

In the other league match also played on Wednesday, King Faisal and AshantiGold shared the spoils in a 0-0 drawn game at the Baba Yara Stadium.
