Kotoko's title defence under threat

Asante Kotoko’s title defence has been dealt a major blow as the Porcupine Warriors now trail the leaders by 11 points after losing over the weekend.

Former Kotoko coach, Bashiru Hayford ensured that the champions were put to the sword by Kessbec FC at the Anane Boateng Park.

Baba Iddi struck the winner for Kessben in the closing stages of the match of the match that sees Kotoko drop to fourth on the table.

The Porcupine Warriors despite having a game in hand have a huge task of hauling back points as the Glo Premier League reaches the final stages of the first round.

But the story was much different at the Ohene Djan Stadium where leaders, Hearts of Oak preserved their seven point lead at the summit of the league after Liberty Professionals 3-1.

The Phobians opened the scoring in the 7th minute through stand-in captain Eric Nyarko but Latif Salifu drew Liberty level after 40 minutes.

However the leaders did not look like dropping points in this derby clash as they deservedly restored their lead through Samuel Affum before Elvis Acheampong put the game beyond Liberty with a 90th minute goal.

Second-placed Heart of Lions with a game in hand banged three goals past Eleven Wise at the Kpando Park with goals coming from Ibrahim Sulemana, Hans Coffie and Isaac Morgan.

King Faisal moved third on the standings after their 2-1 win over All Stars at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Veteran attacker Abedi Sarfo put Faisal in the lead after 43 minutes before All Stars drew level in the 76th minute through Emmanuel Osei. But the home team ensured victory in the final ten minutes of the game through Samad Oppon.

AshantiGold fought back to draw a one-all draw with Chelsea at the Len Clay Stadium.

Richard Atika put the premiership debutants in the lead before Solomon Addy earned the Miners a point when he tapped-in from close range.

Hasaacas improved their chances of escaping relegation with a 3-1 victory over bottom side, Sporting Mirren at the Sekondi Sports Stadium.

Joseph Agyeman Jnr scored the opener for Hasaacas in the 8th minute as the last seven minutes of the game had to produce three more goals.

Charles Nartey in the 83rd minute doubled the lead for the home side but four minutes later, Larbi Koomson pulled one back for Mirren who appeared to be looking for a draw at that stage of the game until a 90th minute strike by Nartey ended their hopes.

Berekum Arsenals kept their imperious home form intact when a Stephen Amankwah brace handed them all the spoils in their 2-0 win over Tema Youth at the at the Golden City Park.

All Blacks had to share the spoils after drawing goalless with Real Tamale United at the Swedru Stadium.
