Hearts outmuscle Kotoko in Kumasi

A stuttering Asante Kotoko were outmuscled by slick Hearts of Oak as the Phobians made a huge statement of their Glo Premier League title intentions on Sunday by beating their rivals to open a seven-point gap at the top.

Hassan Mohammed and Obed Ansah helped the Phobians to the 2-1 win at the Baba Yara Stadium, which was their first in a decade as they continue a fine form this season under Kosta Papic.

A well composed Hearts side were by far the better side though they could have finished their tie with a higher scoring margin.

After 12 of minutes of play, the visitors went in front with full-back Hassan Mohammed arriving at the right time to slot in after Kotoko’s goalkeeper; Soulama had spilled a shot at goal.

Profligacy cost the Phobians as they went into recess. But back from the break, Hearts of Oak continued from where they left off and in the 58th minute, Obed Ansah scored the second goal – his sixth so far - which takes him to the top of goal charts.

Second half substitute Stephen Oduro pulled one back for Kotoko when he finished off a solo run with powerful shot that beat goalkeeper Philemon McCarthy.

At the Tamale Sports Stadium, Real Tamale United recorded their biggest win of the season so far, thrashing Tema Youth 4-0.

Wa All Stars ended their recent run of draws as they beat Eleven Wise 2-0 at home to take them to the 6th position.

Liberty Professionals had to fight back for a point as they drew 1-1 with Kessben FC at the Ohene Djan Stadium.

In Sunyani, Chelsea also shared the spoils with Heart of Lions with the game ending goalless. Both sides finished the match with ten men.

Hasaacas picked their second win of the season, beating Gamba All Blacks 3-1 at the Sekondi Sports Stadium. The win lifts Hasaacas to 13th on the table while All Blacks drop to the bottom.
