Vice President of the Ghana Football Association has complained about the context within which a report in the English media on Sunday was attributed to him suggested that he implied that Chelsea had not sought permission to use Michael Essien due to his absence from a national game.
Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger is prepared to test the Fifa regulations saying Chelsea broke the rules by playing Michael Essien in a home win over Wolves on November 21 after the player stayed away from a Ghana friendly against Angola the previous Wednesday.
Wenger believes Essien should have been suspended for Chelsea’s subsequent Premier League fixture, the 3-0 win at Arsenal.
The Blues are reported to claim that the matter is a ‘non-issue’ because they have written permission from Ghana’s FA to use Essien.
However, the same report casts doubts about the said permission with Ghana linked to the controversy as Fred Pappoe, according to the Sunday Times says “he was unaware any permission had been granted” Chelsea.
But the FA Vice President says the context within which the report places his response to a different question asked by the Times is erroneous.
“I had a call from the guy [Times reporter] last week asking whether we [FA] were going to complain against the use of Essien by Chelsea because he had stayed away from our game.
“I made it clear to him [reporter] that I was out of the country and would not be in the position to know[decision of the FA to complain against the use of the player] so he should call later when I was back in town.
“He hasn’t called me up till now. I find it improper for them to put out something within that context as a basis to doubt another argument.
“It’s so wrong to do that. I have still not got a call from the guy for the GFA’s official position and on the matter they are reporting today[Sunday],” the FA Vice President told www.ghanafa.org Sunday morning.
