FC Nania have gained their first national honours by winning the FA Cup after Evans Omani's goal helped them beat Asante Kotoko 1-0 in the MTN FA Cup final at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The substitute struck with a cheeky back-heel past Soulama Abdoulaye in post for Kotoko after 107 minutes to send Nania into FA Cup folklore and secure them a continental football place next season.

Nania might have stayed longer than the powerhouses in the competition but matched favourites, Kotoko from the onset till the extra-time to seal success.

It's been a season of Cup shocks, including Nania's semi-final win over Ghana champions Berekum Chelsea. And they did have one last surprise in the finals too.

For coach of the side, Abedi Ayew Pele, a former Ghana international, victory represents a major lift for a side who have stayed longer than the powerhouses in the competition.

"I feel very good. The credit its not for me, it goes to the players. They've been training very hard and today their prayers have been answered," Abedi said after the game.

"I am really thrilled."

"We were tight in the defence. Kotoko is a great team and it is hard to beat them.

"Tactical awareness made us win. We didn't anticipate winning but the better team won," he added.

Nania, apart from lifting the trophy picks a cash prize of GHS 20,000 while the losing finalist, Kotoko gets GHS 10,000.

112 sides have been involved in the Cup competition which begun in December 2010.

The final match represents a total of 111 games in the Cup competition.
