Although it was the last match day for the season, there was no shortage of excitement as both ends of the table drew attention but the bottom ranks caught the spotlight.

After the final day matches of the 2007/2008 OneTouch Premier League, three teams would be playing in the second tier of Ghana football next season with all having tasted life in the Division One League before.

Despite the title and the Champions League slots decided way before the final kick off, there was some fantastic football played in the Premiership as two others earned places to participate in the CAF Confederations Cup competition.

At the end of 90 minutes on Sunday, there were a bit of twist, which came from the bottom of the table.

The steady progress of Hasaacas, who needed a result to stay in the premiership next season continued at the Sekondi Sports Stadium as they saw off Kessben FC 4-1 for a victory in which January signing, David Anars hit a hat-trick.

Kessben pulled a goal back through Baba Iddi from a spot kick before Isaac Donkor scored the fourth goal in the 88th minute.

Real Tamale United’s 30-year top flight status remained intact after producing a comeback late on in the game against strugglers, Zaytuna FC in the decider at the Coronation Park to win 2-1 as the premiership debutants return to division one.

Both teams needed the three points to stay in the elite division and it was Zaytuna who drew first blood through George Akama but later had goalkeeper Gerald Tetteh sent off for time wasting.

But Yakubu Imoro scored the equalizer for RTU with five minutes remaining before Ganiyu handed Abdul Razak’s team the three points after scoring in injury time.

Real Sportive put a strong fight to beat Heart of Lions 3-1 at the Tema Park but are still relegated from the elite division for the first time since 2004 when they made their premiership debut.

The Tema side would now await the outcome of an appeal against the deduction of three points as a positive decision in their favour would swell their accumulated points but it would not be enough to overtake the teams ahead of them.

At the Len Clay Stadium, AshantiGold were dealt a major blow as they fell to Tema Youth 2-1, a result which denies them a top four finish and a continental place.

Edward Affum hit a brace to send Tema Youth into a 2-0 lead but Emmanuel Adjetey was on hand to pull a goal back for the Miners.

Dethroned champions, Hearts of Oak ended their torrid season with a 1-0 victory over relegated city rival’s Great Olympics at the Ohene Djan Stadium. Ebo Sam scored in the second half for the Phobians.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko finished the season with a 16-point gap after posting a 3-1 win over Gamba All Blacks at the Swedru Park.

Kwame Obeng-Darko returned to the starting line up of the Porcupine Warriors and scored the opening goal with Eric Bekoe hitting a brace.

All Stars beat Berekum Arsenals 1-0 at the Wa Park with Issa Salifu scoring the match winner while King Faisal also beat Liberty Professionals 3-1 at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Emmanuel Osei put Liberty in the lead but goals from Dan Addo, Abraham Basit and Eric Agyemang condemned the Dansoman side to defeat.
