All Stars end 16-year wait

Never mind, it might have been a high scoring win on the final day of matches in the national zonal middle league but the fact remains that three clubs have qualified for next season’s premiership.

Wa All Stars after a sixteen-year wait in the lower division return to the elite ranks together with new boys, Kessben FC and Nania FC.

The final day of matches registered 71 goals from six match centres with two clubs in Zone III producing 59 of those goals scored on Wednesday.

Match-day-3 will certainly enter the history books as the highest scoring day in world football as officials at those match centres might have even lost count.

In Zone I, Wa All Stars formerly known as Upper West Heroes secured a hundred percent record of three wins in three matches to top the group and return to the premiership since their drop in the 1990/91 season.

The Wa-based side managed a 3-0 win over closest contenders, Catholic Stars for the sole slot from the zone while B.A. United got a face-saving 1-0 win over Lepo Stars.

Kessben FC also successfully picked the ticket from Zone II after beating Eleven Wise 3-1 to cap their third win in the competition. Still in the group, Samartex and Mine Stars drew 2-2.

Zone III produced the sad tale of one of the best organised promotion leagues in the football history of the country.

What a day for the match officials recording proceedings as all the interesting results were produced in the zone which saw Nania FC qualify after they incredibly beat Okwawu United 31-0.

Okwawu United who before the game had crushed out of contention at a stage of the game went down 0-1 in the first half but back recess, the former premiership side picked the ball from the back of the net thirty times as Nania completed the rout.

While that smashing record was on, Great Mariners were just three goals shy of equalling that feat as they walloped Mighty Jets 28-0.

Most of the club’s did bid goodbye even before the final day of matches after two games in the three-match competition.

B.A United, Okwawu United and Eleven Wise, all former premiership campaigners seeking a return to the elite division and Lepo Stars all crushed out after two games losing two successive matches.

Three clubs down the log on the premiership table at the end of the season would be relegated to pave way for three new entrants.
