Stephen Appiah is hoping to sort out a compensation claim awarded against him by world football governing body Fifa to pave the way for his return to club football.

The midfielder has confirmed that he would need to pay former club, Fenerbahce $2.3millions in damages on the orders of sport governing body.

Appiah in an interview with local radio station, Joy FM said, Fifa slapped the penalty on him after Fenerbahce lodged a complaint that he walked out on a contract with them.

Despite the sport governing body handing Appiah a fine, Fernabahce have appealed against the penalty, saying the amount is not enough.

But Appiah hopes FIFA’s final decision due in July will clear the path for him to talk to some clubs who have expressed an interest in signing him.

“The fitness side has been solved and my knees feel fine now,” he said.

“We now have to urgently deal with the FIFA issue, but I believe everything will be resolved in July and I will play again.”
