Five Ghanaian stars have been voted amongst Africa’s best 30 players of the last 50 years by fans in a poll conducted by the continent’s sport body, the Confederation of African Football.
Cameroon legend, Roger Milla was voted as the Best African Football Player for the period 1957-2007 by internet users as he received 2246 votes.
Abedi Ayew Pele earned Ghana’s best chance of been voted the continents best player though he placed 5th after picking 1783 votes.
Michael Essien had 996 votes to settle for the 11th position with Anthony Yeboah placing 24th on the log with 511 votes.
Abdul Karim Razak with 430 votes took the 26th spot while Samuel Osei Kuffour was 27th after accumulating 368 votes.
Ghana initially had a tall list of twenty Stars that were included in CAF’s selected poll of players to be nominated the best African player of the last 50 years.
Out of the five, only two members of Ghana’s party - Michael Essien and Samuel Osei Kuffour are currently playing active football on the big stage.
The Confederation of African Football – CAF, selected a large poll of players to be nominated for the best African player of the last 50 years as the sport body celebrates its anniversary this year.
CAF picked 200 players who have made an impact on the continent since its founding in 1957 with the selection based on performances at national and international level.
Followers of African football were allowed to vote through CAF’s website ahead of the confederation’s fiftieth anniversary next year.
The voting was organized as part of festivities marking the 50th anniversary of the Confederation of African Football.
Fans were given the opportunity to either pick a player from the list or nominate one of their own choice.
