Ghana and Australia sold out an entertaining game at the Queens Park Rangers’ Loftus Road stadium in London as both countries drew 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes in Tuesday's international friendly.
It was a game of two halves and great goalkeeping by Richard Kingson for Ghana and Australia's Mark Schwarzer seems to have kept both sides in the game at different moments.
Richard Kingson pulled some great saves in the 11th, 37th and 52nd minutes of the game.
The best of his saves was in the 37th minute when he dived and palmed to corner a powerful header that was heading for the upright from Jason Culina.
The Australian's went ahead first from a spot kick after Ghana defender Francis Dickoh had fouled John Aloisi in the box.
Dickoh mistimed the ball in the box and Aloisi managed to outmuscle him for the ball but the defender's attempt at stopping the attacker resulted in a penalty.
Aloisi stepped up and converted for the Socceroos in the 26th minute.
After the goal, Ghana came close to getting the equalizer twice as Sulley Muntari's effort went straight into the side net in the 37th minute while captain, Stephen Appiah saw his shot glance across the face of Schwarzer's goal five minutes later.
The lone goal separated both sides till the end of the first half.
Back from recess, Ghana increased the tempo after the break however and finally made the breakthrough when Junior Agogo scored after a sustained period of pressure.
Agogo tapped in after 75 minutes for Ghana after Australia goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer had spilled Asamoah Gyan's low cross.
Australia keeper Schwarzer, then kept his side in the game when he blocked Sulley Al Muntari's scissor kick.
Ghana effected three changes in the second half.
Reserve goalkeeper, Sammy Adjei came on for Richard Kingson following an injury suffered by Kingson in the early minutes of the game while Asamoah Gyan was on for Peter Ofori Quaye and Haminu Dramani taking over from Laryea Kingson.
The game was the fourth international friendly for Ghana after the World Cup finals and the third for new Black Stars coach, Claude Le Roy.
The fixture also saw Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah, earn his 50th cap for Ghana.
The 26-year-old attacker received his first senior cap on his 16th Birthday when Ghana played Benin on 24th December, 1996.
Appiah has thus managed 50 caps and scored 12 goals for Ghana.
Ghana after a second round exit from the World Cup in Germany have remained unbeaten in four international friendly matches.
Ghana beat Togo 2-0 in September before completing a successful double over Asian giants, Japan and South Korea last month.
The Black Stars beat Japan’s senior national side 1-0 in London and four days later went on to hand South Korea a 3-1 defeat in Seoul.
The friendly with the Socceroos formed part of Ghana’s build up towards the African Cup of Nations in some thirteen months time.
Ghana, by virtue of being host of the 2008 African Cup of Nations finals would not be playing any competitive match until January 2008, when the tournament kicks off in Accra.
