Even in wet conditions, it took unanswered goals over Peru, one in each half to ensure that Ghana were home and dry as the Black Starlets secure a place in the semi-finals of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup.

The 2-0 result was perhaps an unfair testament of the game at the Changwon as the match stats depicted.

Ghana, with goals from the Sadick Adams in the first half and the tournament’s leading scorer, Ransford Osei, who got his fifth goal of the competition in five matches now set a semi-final date with Spain on Wednesday.

Despite Ghana’s towering form, Peru, sought to end the winning run of the Black Starlets over South American opponents after earlier defeats to Colombia in the group phase and Brazil in the knockout round but a blistering start from the two-time world champions sounded the West African sides intent of seeking a berth in the last four.

The Incas, however found the Ghanaians to strong as the Black Starlets added another scalp to their South American haul in the tournament.

Ghana, having a better part of the exchanges of the game in the first half had to wait until a minute into normal time of the half to draw first blood.

Sadick Adams’ connection to a Ransford Osei pull out from the left was blocked but the striker’s second attempt found the back of the net as Ghana opened the scoring in the 46th minute with what was effectively the last kick of the half.

Back from recess, the Black Starlets maintained their momentum and deservedly got the second through Ransford Osei.

The Ghana attacker pounced on an overkick by Isaac Donkor which had come off the upright to slot home in the 53rd minute to make 2-0.

Osei’s goal killed off the game for Ghana who could have doubled their comfortable lead but missed in front of goal.

After the 70th minute mark, Ghana appeared to have eased off the pressure as the Black Starlets occasionally surged forward.

Ghana coach, Sellas Tetteh made three changes taking off Paul Addo, Sadick Adams and Ishmael Yartey for Mersuna Alhassan, Kelvin Bossman and Prince Gyimah.

The changes made little difference to the team's play as Peru failed to go beyond the Ghanaian defence to pull a goal back.
