Senior national team coach, Claude Le Roy has been requested by the Executive Committee of the FA to assist the technical team of the junior national team for Sunday’s game against the Ivory Coast.
The decision to have the Black Stars coach augment the technical team of the Black Starlets headed by Bashiru Hayford was taken at the governing and decision making body’s sitting last Thursday.
Ghana Football Association president, Kwesi Nyantakyi exclusively confirmed the Executive Committee’s decision in his latest column on the FA’s official website on Tuesday.
According to the FA president, the technical handlers of the team have been tasked to ensure that Ghana reverses the first leg scoreline and qualify for the championship.
“The Committee also charged the coaches and management team of the Black Starlets to work hard and ensure that the 1-3 goal deficit suffered in Cote d’Ivoire is reversed on Sunday, 10th December 2006.
“The defeat of the Starlets was considered as a crisis situation.
“The Head Coach of the Black Stars, Claude Le Roy was requested to provide additional technical support to the team.
“This is to complement the efforts of the technical team who will steer affairs during the match without the Coach who was shown the red card in Abidjan,” the President stated in his write-up.
Claude Le Roy, was at the junior national team’s camp last week and sat through their friendly game against Maxbees at the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Thursday.
The French coach would join the junior national team on Thursday in Sunyani when they play their second practice game against another division one side, Berekum Chelsea.
On Monday, the Black Starlets stepped up their preparations for Sunday’s encounter with a 2-0 win over B.A United.
The team has been camped in Sunyani since Saturday.
Ghana went down 3-1 in the first leg encounter in Abidjan and would need a 2-0 win to edge out the Ivorians and book a place for next year’s African Junior Championship to be hosted by Togo.
The junior national team would however be missing the services of striker, Abeiku Quansah.
Team doctors have ruled out striker from the return game against the Ivory Coast on Sunday.
The striker who got Ghana’s only goal in the game fractured his shoulder during the first leg tie against the Ivory Coast in Abidjan.
Abeiku Quansah picked up the shoulder injury when he was tripped in the box after the striker rounded up the Ivorian goalkeeper, Serge Akoudjou.
The player fell awkwardly on his shoulder resulting in the injury.
