Ghana Under-20 midfielder, Rabiu Mohammed has targeted a place in the final round of qualifiers for the Africa Youth Championship when the Black Satellites meet Angola on Sunday.
The Black Satellites would be away to Angola in the reverse fixture of the qualifiers and Rabiu is convinced they can beat their opponents in the game in the south-western Namibe Province to advance to the final round.
“Everything has been good and moral is high within the team. We have resolved to play our best and qualify Ghana to the next round,” the midfielder who plays for Gimnastic in Spain’s Segunda division told www.ghanafa.org before the team departed Accra on Wednesday.
Ghana won the first leg 5-1 in Accra a fortnight ago and are tipped to go through to the final round of the Africa Youth Championship qualifiers.
The Black Satellites came from a goal down to deservedly win the first leg game with goals from Rabiu Mohammed, Sadick Adams, Abdul Ganiyu and a brace by captain, Ransford Osei.
Despite the 5-1 lead, Rabiu accepts that Sunday’s match would be tough but hopes he can find target again.
“I hope I can score again if I have the chance to score. I would try to find target. It’s not left to only me but it is a collective responsibility. And that’s good for the team since we share responsibilities.
“We are expecting a tough match against the Angolans as they are also want to reach the Championship.”
Rabiu Mohammed, who played his debut game for Ghana in the first leg match in Accra and capped it with a goal, says he is enjoying every moment of representing his country.
“I am enjoying myself very well. This is my first time playing in the national team. And I hope God gives me the chance to play more often for my country.
“It is good to play for your country. I am very, very happy. We have so many players, from about fifty players called initially. But to be part of the final team makes me proud,” he said.
The midfielder after his debut game hopes to maintain a regular place in the team.
“It’s good for me and for my future. I am happy to be given this opportunity to play for Ghana. And I would try my best to maintain a place in the team.”
The first leg win enhanced Ghana’s chances of reaching the next round of qualifiers of the 16th African Youth Championships.
