Ghana would be missing from next year’s African Youth Championship to be hosted by Congo after losing 4-3 on penalties to Burkina Faso in the final eliminator.
The national under-20 side, the Black Satellites playing at home managed to send the game into penalties after drawing 1-1 with the Young Stallions over two-legs at the Sunyani Coronation.
Burkina Faso thus join six other teams to participate at the African Youth Championships.
It took the Black Satellites 85th minutes before Kojo Asamoah scored from a freekick to put Ghana on level pegging with their opponents.
But during the penalty kicks, Ghana, 1999 African champions managed to convert three of their six kicks while the Burkinabes successfully scored four out of six attempts.
Fulham FC’s Bradley Hudson-Odoi earned his first cap for Ghana when he came on the second half for Mark Adu Amofa.
The young striker scored Ghana’s first penalty kick.
Isaac Boateng and Kennedy Korli also scored for Ghana but Solomon Addy, Opoku Agyemang and goalkeeper, Nana Bonsu missed their kicks.
