Ghana’s has secured a place in the last four of the competition after two impressive wins over Mali and Cameroon from Group B in the African Women’s Championship on-going in Nigeria.
The Black Queens, two-time finalist are tipped as one of Africa’s favourites to end Nigeria’s domination on the continent.
Nigeria have won all four previous tournaments and are gunning for a historic fifth title.
But Ghana Football Association president, Kwesi Nyantakyi is confident of the nation’s chances as the Black Queens remain a game away from the finals.
“We want to qualify for the World Cup, China 2007 and win the AWC for the first time.
“The young ladies are mindful of this challenge. They are committed to applying their heads, legs and hearts to the accomplishment of this task,” the FA president says in his column.
Kwesi Nyantakyi, though impressed with the efforts of the Ghanaian team after two games says one of the tournament’s discoveries; Anita Amankwah has lived up to the billing.
“She is a bunch of nerves bubbling with energy, athleticism and youth exuberance.
“She played as the lead striker thus seeing her pile a hot of pressure on the opponent’s defence.
“But what strikes me most is her regular runs back to tackle in midfield and support the defence to clear balls from danger.
“Through it may appear early, yet I think she is the revelation of the team,” he added in his write-up.
Ghana have qualified for the semi finals but would play their third group game on Saturday against DR Congo.
