Ghana’s senior women’s team departed Accra Thursday afternoon for Lagos as the Black Queens attempt to win the African Women Championship for the first time.
Black Queens coach, Isaac Paha on Monday named his 18-member squad for the tournament to be hosted by Nigeria.
The women’s team would spend the night in Lagos before being flown to Oghara on Friday, the base for the participating Group B teams.
The Black Queens are grouped alongside the women's team of Mali, Cameroon and DR Congo for the tournament which kicks off on Saturday, October 28.
Ghana makes its vow on Sunday when the Black Queens take on Mali in their first group game.
Ahead of the African Women's Championship, the Black Queens had been training in the United States for the upcoming tournament.
Ghana’s team though dominated by locals includes three foreign-based players.
Adjoa Bayor, the 2003 African Women’s Footballer of the Year, who recently returned from a short spell in China together with the U.S based Mavis Danso and Patricia Ofori are the three foreign players in the Ghana squad.
Whilst in the U.S, the women’s team played some games against selected sides in the San Francisco Bay Arena.
The Black Queens bounced back from their 0-1 loss to Sacramento Storm in the first practice game to beat San Francisco Nighthawks 3-2 in their last exhibition match.
Before their final test game, the Black Queens had drawn 1-1 with Francisco Nighthawks.
Ghana’s squad:
Enti Gladys, Danso Mavis, Ofori Patricia, Anita Wiredu-Minta, Saabi Ama, Foriwa Gloria, Avoe Yaa and Ankrah Lydia.
Others are: Adutwumaa Florence, Ibrahim Aminatu, Awuah Doreen, Okoe Florence and Okine Sheila.
The rest are: Bayor Adjoa, Olivia Amoako, Tahiru Rumanatu, Quansah Gladys and Anita Amankwah
