Professional players are always caught in the middle when it comes to honouring national call-ups and playing every minute for their clubs throughout the season.

However, young Ghana striker, Nafiu Iddrisu who earned his debut with the Olympic team on Sunday in their 3-1 win over South Africa in the African qualifiers says he would always done the national colours and defend Ghana’s flag.

Though the Asec Mimosa striker has missed out of some national call-ups, a situation which had fuelled talk about his commitment, Nafiu says he is ever ready to play for the nation as he dismisses such claims.

“I always feel bad if I fail to honour a national call up since it is the dream of every player to play for his national team but it has never been my intention to decline an offer to play for my nation.”

“Many people say I love my club more than my country, but that is never true as I would like to die for my country”.

The former Fetteh Feyenoord striker who enjoyed a quiet game against the South African’s on Sunday says he was not satisfied with his performance and will like to prove a point another time.

Nafiu believes the pressure from the expectant home fans might have contributed to the team’s slow start and adds that the team could have still done better despite the 3-1 victory.

“There was a bit of pressure on us but we were cool,” he said.

Though he has received rave reviews from Black Stars coach, Claude Le Roy, the striker says a call up into the senior team would be most welcome but before that he would continue to play for the Black Meteors until the appropriate time when Le Roy will extend an invitation to him.
