Olympic team coach, Cecil Jones Attuquayefio says the training programme for the Black Meteors would be adjusted following the change in dates for the second round of qualifiers for the All-African Games.
Ghana’s Black Meteors have been paired against the Olympic team of the Ivory Coast in the second round of qualifiers for the All-African Games in December.
The earlier arrangement had the match dates fixed for January 2007.
The Black Meteors are grouped in Zone III together with Ivory Coast and Nigeria for the single slot for the 9th All Africa Games, Men’s Football tournament to be hosted by Algeria.
Thirty-eight players resume camping under Cecil Jones Attuquayefio on Monday at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
Cecil Jones Attuquayefio and his backroom staff have tall order in selecting their final team and he admits it’s a difficult task considering the talent at their disposal.
“We have a lot of talent and getting our final teams is difficult.
“But we have to select the best for the nation. The intention is to qualify for China 2008,” he said.
Jones says the national handlers would still scout for players and invite those can make the grade into the national camp.
“By November, we would get our final team. We wouldn’t stop selecting players. We would keep on adding till we get the best for the nation.”
The Black Meteors on Wednesday play their first test game against Asante Kotoko at the Konongo Park.
The team would the next day, Thursday, take on Bofoakwa Tano at the Sunyani Coronation Park.
The winner of the Ghana-Ivory Coast tie would meet Nigeria.
Nigeria drew a bye and would meet the winner over the two-leg tie in the third round, which is the last qualifying hurdle in February 2007.
The Black Meteors would play at home first on the weekend of December 15-17 with the return leg slated for Abidjan next year on the weekend of January 12-14.
